The evening got off to a good start when the club surprised Melody and Les by awarding them with Life Membership of the club in recognition of all their hard work in ensuring the smooth running of the club and promoting both the club and bonsai in general in New Zealand and overseas.
The main part of the evening was run by Melody who gave an illustrated talk on the use of Pumice in bonsai, saikei and bonkei. During the talk Melody went through some of the ways to use pumice and how to carve it to get more realistic looking rocks.
Then it was over to the rest of the members to saw, scrape and chisel their way through some lumps of pumice to start creating suitable rocks for use with their trees.
A great evening with some potentially great landscapes to come.
We had a good evening. Lots of new stones for planting on were created – can’t wait to see what people plant on them.
