A select group of club members met to discuss what had gone wrong with their trees over the last year.
Cotoneasters, Junipers, Maples and Dawn Redwoods featured in the list of lost causes.
It appears several of our members have experienced male Junipers producing brown flower buds (cones) on most of their growing tips. After these have released their pollen the foliage then dies back. In some cases this has occurred over the whole of the tree leading to its death. Sandra has been trying to overcome this by feeding a flowering Juniper PN very heavily. This tree is slowly starting to respond with new growth but the tree is much weaker than those which have not flowered.
Both the Junipers and other trees appeared to have been showing signs of being affected by the warmer winters of late.
