Can golden Totara be repotted in the autumn? Or when do you think is the best time?

It is better to re-pot golden totara in early spring – late July or August. They are one of the most tolerant of the natives for re-potting but still a little touchy.

July is now late enough to re-pot your Golden Totara. Just shelter it after re-potting in case we have a late frost.

Tonight I have re-potted two of my Totara’s. One is an existing Bonsai of many years, and the other is a cutting I did in 2012. The bonsai was taken out of the pot and trimmed around the edges and bottom of the root ball only. The cutting was taken out of the pot and large roots removed from underneath and the outside of the root ball only. Neither trees where bear rooted as Totara’s don’t like it.
